Bijlee Rekha

Bijlee Rekha is a pure georgette hand dyed saree created through a layered clamp resist and discharge dye process. The fabric is folded and compressed between shaped clamps before immersion in dye so certain areas resist colour.
After dyeing, selected portions of colour are removed and the textile is dyed again. The saree passes through multiple dye baths and is opened only at the final stage. The markings appear gradually as the clamps are released.

The lightning like lines are not printed or painted. They form from areas where dye could not enter and later where colour was discharged from the fibre. Because the dye penetrates the yarn rather than sitting on the surface, the georgette stays soft and fluid. The saree moves easily and never develops the stiffness common to printed fabric.

Every piece develops its own pattern and placement. No two sarees are identical.
