Moon On My Pallu
Moon On My Pallu is a hand dyed silk saree created through a combination of shibori binding and clamp resist dyeing. Sections of the silk are folded, bound, and compressed before immersion in dye so colour reaches the textile selectively.
The fabric is dyed, opened, repositioned, and dyed again across multiple dye baths. The crescent form appears only after the bindings and clamps are finally released. The motif is not printed or painted. It forms from areas where dye is resisted and softened within the fibre. Because the dye penetrates the yarn rather than sitting on the surface, the silk retains a soft hand feel and fluid fall. The saree moves easily and the markings shift gently with pleating.
Each piece develops its own alignment. No two sarees will be identical.
This is a non printed, hand dyed saree.
Craft
Hand dyed using combined shibori resist and clamp resist techniques across multiple dye immersions. The pattern is revealed only at the final unbinding stage.
Why it is different
Most sarees are digitally printed or screen printed.
Here the design is formed by controlling how dye enters and leaves the textile. The pattern exists inside the fabric rather than on top of it.
You are not wearing a printed motif.
You are wearing a dye process.
Colour
Colour
