Valley of Dusk
Valley of Dusk is a hand dyed silk saree developed using a traditional shibori resist dye technique. Sections of the fabric are folded and tightly bound before immersion in dye so colour reaches only selected areas of the textile.
After the first dye bath, portions of colour are carefully discharged and the saree is dyed again. Through repeated dye cycles the sweeping landscape form gradually appears across the silk. The circular shadow and curved path are not printed or painted. They are created by controlling how dye moves through the fibre.
Because the colour is absorbed into the yarn rather than placed on the surface, the saree remains soft with a fluid drape and a very smooth hand feel. The markings stay integrated within the fabric and do not sit stiffly like a printed saree.
Each piece forms a slightly different alignment. No two sarees can be identical.
This is a non printed, hand dyed saree.
Craft
Hand dyed using shibori resist dyeing combined with discharge dye technique. The saree passes through multiple dye immersions and is opened only at the final stage to reveal the pattern.
Why it is different
Most sarees today are screen printed or digitally printed.
This saree is resist dyed. The pattern is formed by blocking dye, removing dye, and re dyeing the textile.
You are not wearing a printed motif.
You are wearing the dye process.
